History of Divulapitiya


There is no evidence that Divulapitiya was a separate local government until the second century of the twentieth century.
The Divulapataya area which belonged to the early post-independence era belonged to the "Ubudgampola Mabodale village task council". The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. S.Wijesinghe. S. Three village councils have been named for the Divulapitiya seat. They are Divulapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha, Yatigaha Grama Sabha and Kehel Ella Pradeshiya Sabha.
By 1970, Minuwangoda and Mirigama were still the Divisions of the Divulapitiya.
In 1970, the Divulapitiya AGA division was formed to include all the Divulapitiya electorate in the three districts of Mivulapitiya, Yatigaha and Kehelella. Today it is "Divisional Secretariat."
The land adjoining the town of Divulapitiya which was acquired by the government under the Land Reform Act of 1972 was appointed by the town, Bus Depot, Stadium, Divisional Secretariat, Electricity Board, Depot, Drainage Board, Post Office, Textile Center, Technical College. By Act No.35 of 1980 the Gampaha District Development Council was formed and all the Local Authorities of the District were merged into it. To them all the above three village councils became their sub offices.
Under the Pradeshiya Sabha Act No. 18 of 1987, the new Pradeshiya Sabha which included the ancient village council powers and the new powers was enacted to extend the powers of the 3 village councils to the level of the Divulapitiya electorate or to the district level. .
This is how the three village councils Divulapitiya, Kehel Ella and Kotadeniyawa (Yatigaha) were born as Divulapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha.
